The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 was signed into law by President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009. According to the White House, the ARRA will create or save 3.5 million jobs nationally over the next two years. According to local estimates, this translates into 50,000 jobs in Louisiana.

The Senate Committee on Appropriations has directed that Louisiana receive $429.9 million for investments in transportation infrastructure. The funds are to be used through the same process that drives the MPO - the FHWA's Surface Transportation Program. This means that all projects done locally must be approved by the MPO and placed in the TIP.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has sub-allocated $9.6 million dollars to the Houma-Thibodaux MPO. This money has further been broken down to give each of the represented jursdictions within the MPO a pro-rata share of those funds based on their population.

Projects have been submitted to the MPO by the represented jurisdictions, and a project description and timeframe will be posted on this website as soon as they are completed. All projects must meet federal criteria to be considered.
