As we look ahead to 2050, our region is on the cusp of exciting growth and transformation. Destination 2050 is our comprehensive roadmap for addressing the transportation needs of tomorrow while enhancing the quality of life for residents and supporting economic development across the region.

What is the Metropolitan Transportation Plan?

The MTP is a federally mandated document that outlines the long-term transportation vision for the Houma-Thibodaux region. It covers all modes of transportation, including roadways, public transit, freight, bicycle, and pedestrian facilities. The plan is updated every five years to reflect changing needs, emerging technologies, and the latest demographic trends.

Our Vision for 2050

Destination 2050 is guided by a strategic framework that focuses on five key goals:

  1. Provide Reliable Transportation Options – Expanding and improving transportation networks to offer diverse and accessible options for all residents.
  2. Improve Safety and Security – Reducing crashes, fatalities, and serious injuries through innovative safety strategies and infrastructure enhancements.
  3. Maintain and Maximize Our System – Ensuring that existing infrastructure is well-maintained and efficiently managed to meet future demands.
  4. Support Prosperity – Promoting economic growth by enhancing freight mobility and supporting local businesses through strategic transportation investments.
  5. Protect Our Environment and Communities – Minimizing the environmental impact of transportation projects and promoting sustainable practices.
